SPORTS DIPLOMACY INITIATIVE

To stay in its mission of spreading basketball to all children, SUN CITY ACADEMY has created an international sports initiative, THE GLOBAL GAME: CONNECTING BASKETBALL TO THE WORLD. The program will provide educational programs, cultural exchanges, and developmental services to basketball players and coaches across nations, cultures, and backgrounds. To achieve meaningful and long-term change, requires investment involving education, healthy living, and leadership through sports. The initiative will consist of two exchange platforms: Basketball Ambassadors and Basketball Diplomats.

BASKETBALL AMBASSADORS

​

The Basketball Ambassador exchange will consist of athletes and coaches who travel overseas to lead sports diplomacy programs. American coaches and athletes will hold basketball showcases and clinics for young people and their coaches, participate in community outreach activities, and engage youth in a dialogue on the importance of leadership and respect for diversity.

BASKETBALL DIPLOMATS

​

The Basketball Diplomat exchange will consist of athletes and coaches chosen by their countries basketball federation to visit the United States for a fast-paced basketball exchange program. This basketball-themed program offers participants the opportunity to interact with Americans and experience American society, culture, and values firsthand. The activities include sessions on nutrition, strength and conditioning, gender equity in sport, sport and disability, and team building. Participants will use their learned experiences to enhance sports programs in their homeland.
